Mission

KISTA

KISTA (Kick Start the Arts in Seaton) was formed under the umbrella of Seaton Visitors' Centre Trust, to embrace the Visual and Performing Arts in the heart of the local community and adjacent villages, and to play a major role in the interpretation of the Jurassic Coast through the arts within the long-awaited Jurassic Coast Visitor Centre which is due to be completed soon.
Our aim is to support the regeneration of Seaton town by embracing the Arts, thereby creating a strong and cultural presence. We are looking to play to the strengths within the town, including the diverse and unique landscape, its’ social and historical identity and especially the local people’s energy, enthusiasm and commitment to projects and events.
We have a vision to work closely with community groups and support their events, for example, we provide art based activities on the Wetlands(Wet and Wild weekends), at the Carnival, Cycle Festival and The Grizzly Run.
As a group we need to raise funding to support our initiatives and for the past 6 months have held a variety of art exhibitions at Eve Gallery in Fore Street. This has been very successful in raising the profile of KISTA, enabling local artists to exhibit and sell their work and raise funds for our work in the community. We are looking eventually hoping to develop this further since our exhibition space is no longer availabe, and set up an ‘open’ studio space within the town which can act as a hub for local artists and provide exhibition space and a workshop venue.

New members are always made welcome as we look for new ideas from a variety of art backgrounds. Our members include painters, photographers, textile artists, sculptors and writers, we are working towards creating local based workshops, let us know if you are interested in attending or running one.
KISTA are looking forward to an even more success this year, please contact us if you wish to join us at this exciting stage, the Seaton Visitors’ Centre will become a reality and we have a vision to be a strong artistic presence within the town. We also would like to hear from you if you think you can help in any way, especially with studio/exhibition space.
